Tech Pack Development:

What is the process in Tech Pack Development?

The process of tech pack development is crucial in turning a fashion design concept into a tangible, production-ready product. A tech pack is a comprehensive document that includes all the essential details for manufacturers to create the garment exactly as intended. The development process typically includes several key steps:

1. Initial Design & Concept

  • Sketches/Illustrations: The first step is to finalize the design sketches of the garment. This can be in the form of flat  drawings or 3D renders that visually represent the concept.
  • Inspiration & Mood Boards: Designers include visuals that reflect the creative direction, materials, colors, and overall theme of the collection.

2. Fabric & Material Selection

  • Fabric Swatches: A crucial part of the tech pack is choosing fabrics that match the design concept. The tech pack includes fabric details such as fiber content, weight, stretch, and finish.
  • Trims & Accessories: This includes details on  buttons, zippers, labels, or other hardware that may be used in the garment.

3. Detailed Construction Specifications

  • Garment Construction Details: This section includes precise information on how the garment is constructed, including stitch types, seam allowances, and construction techniques.
  • Fit & Size Specifications: The tech pack includes measurements for different sizes, as well as garment fit details to ensure the product fits as intended.
  • Construction Diagrams: Detailed technical drawings showing the construction process, including the location of seams, stitching, and other design features.

4. Tech Specs

  • Measurement Chart: A chart that lists all the necessary measurements for each size to be produced, ensuring the garment  fits according to the design.
  • Labels & Tags: Information on care labels,  brand tags, or size labels, including placement on the garment.
  • Bill of Materials (BOM): A comprehensive list of all materials (fabrics, trims, labels) used in the garment, including suppliers and material specifications.
